Bodas de sangre
It is a play based on a tragic event that happened in the south of Spain in 1928. So so impressed were the entire country that all the newspapers of the time published the news!
What is it about?
It’s a story of two young people who are getting married, but on their wedding day, the bride sees Leonardo again, her old love, with whom she has always been in love.
She wants her fiancé, but she doesn’t love him, her passion binds her to Leonardo, and there is nothing that can separate them from their destiny.
For this reason, after the ceremony, the two run away together, carried away by their love for one another.
The boyfriend goes looking for them, full of pain and rage, and then he arrives at night in the forest, where the fugitive lovers are hiding…
Why have I chosen it?
Because it reflects like no other work, the force of love against social conventions. Violence, honor, revenge and death, are all written with images that are so intense that when you read it, it seems like you are witnessing the tragedy for yourself.
For this reason, Bodas de sangre continues to have as much life as when Lorca wrote it. It premiered in 1933 and still today it continues to be performed in theaters around the world.
